What Are the Noise Restrictions?
All vehicles must comply with Silverstone's noise regulations before and during testing. Vehicles exceeding the permitted limits may be excluded from further participation without refund.
✅ Quick Summary
- 🔊 National Circuit: 105dB static / 102dB drive-by
- 🔊 Grand Prix Circuit: 108dB static / 105dB drive-by
- 📏 Static tests are measured at 0.5m and 45° angle
- ⚠️ Vehicles exceeding limits will not be allowed to continue
- ❌ No refunds will be given if a vehicle fails testing
🏁 National Circuit Noise Limits
The following limits apply on the National Circuit:
- 105dB Static Test
- 102dB Drive-By Test
🏁 Grand Prix Circuit Noise Limits
The Grand Prix Circuit operates in line with Motorsport UK championship regulations relevant to the vehicle being tested.
Maximum permitted limits are:
- 108dB Static Test
- 105dB Drive-By Test
📏 How Is Noise Measured?
For static testing, measurements are taken:
- 0.5 metres from the exhaust
- At a 45-degree angle
- With the engine running at ¾ of maximum revs
In addition, there are three noise monitoring meters located around the circuit measuring drive-by noise levels.
⚠️ Important to Know
- Drive-by limits are 3dB lower than the levels stipulated in the Motorsport UK Blue Book.
- Vehicles exceeding the static or drive-by limits will not be permitted to continue testing.
- If your vehicle is excluded for failing a noise test, no refund will be issued.
- If you're unsure whether your vehicle complies, we strongly recommend requesting a noise test before going out on circuit.
🕒 Engine Running Restrictions
To help manage noise levels:
- ❌ Racing engines must not be run before 08:30
- ❌ Racing engines must not be run after 17:30
🏁 Ensuring your vehicle complies with the applicable noise limits before arriving will help you maximise your track time and avoid disappointment on the day. 🔊🚗
